Day 4. Christchurch. 26.2.26
Today would have been our dear friend Yvonne's birthday. We miss her dearly.
Todays temperature range is 13-21°
For todays adventure we had to walk to the bus station, catch the bus to Mt Cavendish and then take a gondola to the top. The weather started out OK, just a bit breezy. It changed when we were at the top and it became cold, wet and windy.
Looking down at Lyttleton Port.
Looking back over the city. The blue arrow is roughly where our accommodation is.
I took 1 of the walking tracks but the weather was closing in so I turned back.
Lunchtime
Coming back down the mountain was a little different. Visibility was poor at the top and the wind was swaying our carriage.
After the shuttle bus back to the CBD we went in search of milk and popped in to the church for a quick look just as they were about to start a service.
The Cardboard Cathedral, formally called the Transitional Cathedral, is the transitional pro-cathedral, replacing ChristChurch Cathedral, which was significantly damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The church gets its nickname from the use of over 90 large cardboard tubes for its walls and roof.
Afternoon/evening was in our unit relaxing in various forms...snoozing, reading, sampling chocolate, washing clothes...after a snack for dinner we had 4 games of Monopoly deal. Last night Karen and Greg taught us how to play & they won all 4 games. Tonight we put our new skills to the test and we all won a game each.
