Day 11. Kurow. 5.3.26
Day 4 A2O.
6° this morning and 27 when we arrived in Kurow.
Another challenging day with plenty of climbs and descents with a few switchbacks thrown in. Today I decided to take my time and stop and take lots of photos and smell the roses. I spent a fair bit of time in the afternoon riding on my own.
Our unit last night was pretty good.Lots of stunning scenery again today.Mark riding one of the many trails on the side of the mountain.
Some of the tracks were very narrow with a huge drop off on one side.
Lots of blind corners made for some scary moments.
Benmore dam.
We rode down to a picnic spot for lunch with views of the dam. Our speeds coming down the rode varied from 53 to 66 km/hr.
The ride back up to the dam wall was a lot slower.
I spent most of the afternoon trying to catch up to the others as I obviously stopped to take too many photos.
Unexpectedly we rode past some ruins and I just had to stop.
Such a vast variety of scenery and riding surfaces today.
Vineyard.
Waitaki dam wall in Kurow.
Tonight we're staying at the Riverside BnB. It's a gorgeous 4 bedroom house.
1 of our bedroom windows.
Bike shed and laundry.
Apple trees.
Went for a meander on my own to explore the town. Most shops, museum etc were closed already.
