Day 16. Picton. 10.3.26

Up early this morning to take an uber at 5.45am to the train station.  We took the coastal train up the west coast to Picton, a very scenic journey of about 5 hrs. Travelling at speeds of up to 95 km/hr.

Not many people in our carriage.

We saw 100s of Dusky dolphins and NZ Fur seals but it was very hard to photograph them from a moving train.

Below is the fault line from the 2016 earthquake. You can see where the seabed has shifted and is filled with water.

Salt mining, not as pink as the photo supplied by the Great Journeys app for the trains.

When we arrived in Picton we watched the engine being turned around by hand.

We walked ~400m to our accommodation, unpacked a few things, had a cuppa and went for a walk to check out the harbour and to grab a few days supply as Mark and I will be staying for 3 nights.

Not so luxurious but very adequate for our needs.
