Day 21. Franz Joseph. 15.3.26

Today we headed south along the coast to the Alpine village of Franz Joseph. Mark & I have been here before and did a heli-hike on a glacier. This time we are just going to explore the area while Karen and Greg go for a scenic helicopter flight.
We travelled on the coast road for most of the day. The ocean was roaring. We all thought that we could have been on The Great Ocean Road. The scenery was spectacular.

Kilkenny lookout.

Stopped to see the pancake rocks an blow holes.

How could we not 🤷‍♀️

Quick stop in Greymouth by the river.

Lunch stop in Hokitika. Then on to our accommodation at Alpine Glacier Motel, where we have a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 nights.
Cup of tea and some leftover fried rice then we headed out to have look around town.

These hydrangeas were unusual and quite pretty.

Another lovely day to adventure finished off with a gloworm hunt through the forest at dusk. We'd given up as it was too light at 8pm but ended up seeing quite a few on our return walk.
