Day 7. Twizle. 1.3.26

8° overnight.

Walked to the bus stop and departed for Twizel at 8.30am.

Video and photos below taken from the bus.

Rakaia is a town sited on the southern banks of the Rakaia River on the Canterbury Plains, approximately 57 km south of Christchurch on State Highway 1. Immediately north of the township are New Zealand's longest road bridge and longest rail bridge, both of which cross the wide shingle beds of the braided river at this point. Both bridges are approximately 1,750 metres (5,740 ft) in length.

We arrived in Twizle and was met by the Cycle Journeys shuttle bus. They took us to their depot for a briefing and bike fit. Then we rode to our accommodation and they delivered our luggage to the Colonial Motel.

Karen and Gregs friend Natalie joined us on the bus this morning and Gunther and Catherine met us in Twizle.  There are 6 of us riding and Catherine is driving each day and meeting us at our accommodation.

We grabbed a few essentials for our ride tomorrow as there are no facilities for this leg of the ride. Rained on & off this afternoon so we had a little RnR in our room before heading across the road to the pub for dinner. We went for a 3km walk after dinner hoping to get a good photo of the snow topped mountains.

Top temp for Twizel was 13°
